For the first time, new recruits were able to participate in spring camp ahead of the August ramp-up for training camp—and the benefits are already showing. Getting exposure to the system and speed of play now gives the recruits a crucial head start before the season kicks off on August 23 at Cepsum.
Several young players made strong first impressions during the early sessions. Receiver Ely Rivest, QBs Antoine Ouimet and Glenn Valentine, linebacker Elias Soltani and receiver Mamadi Kaba all stood out with their athleticism, work ethic, and quick adaptation. It’s clear that this year’s recruiting focus—filling key roster gaps with young talent ready to compete from day one—is paying off.
Second-year running backs Alex Marchand and Will Chamberland also stood out, building on their experience as rookies last season.
"These two have embraced everything that we are doing at Concordia", said head coach Brad Collinson. "What is great to see is that they are competing with each other but they are also helping each other on and off the field."
Leadership continues to be a pillar of the program, and third-year QB Xavier Tremblay is setting the tone. His command of the offence and ability to communicate expectations to teammates reflects the ABC culture—Accountability, Brotherhood, and Competition. He's not just leading the huddle; he's becoming an ambassador of what this team stands for.
Coach Collinson was very complimentary of the veteran players who embraced their leadership roles and helped guide the new recruits through their first camp experience. Many took it upon themselves to mentor younger players, accelerating their development and integration into the team.
Off-season training also made a noticeable impact. The work in the gym has translated to performance on the field, with players moving sharper, stronger, and more explosively than before.
"I want to thank Chris Thanopoulos, Mike Gough and PerfMax for their involvement in our off-season program," Collinson said. "They built a program that we felt was needed to help us perform better on the field."
Ahead of his second season as offensive coordinator, Justin Chapdelaine has the tools to fully install his vision for the offence. He’s now able to add new layers, wrinkles, and options—maximizing the talent around him and giving the team the flexibility it needs to compete at the highest level.
It’s early, but the foundation is solid—and the energy is unmistakable.
