Tchembe earns RSEQ honours after big game in Sherbrooke

4th year running back Franck Tchembe scored two touchdowns last Friday night at Sherbrooke, including a game-winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter to give the Stingers their first win of the 2024 season.

Tchembe carried the ball 17 times for 83 yards, giving him a 4.9 yards per carry average. He also caught 3 passes for 54 yards, his longest reception going for 41 yards. 

Tchembe wasn’t the only Stinger to come up big in the win over the Vert et Or, senior quarterback Olivier Roy finished the game with 370 yards passing, while receivers Mathieu Robitaille and Tristan Mancini both finished the game with over 70 yards receiving. 

Defensively, the Stingers we led by defensive back Mendel Joseph who intercepted his first pass of the season off a pass from Sherbrooke quarterback Jeremy Fyfe. He also came away with a pass break up and 2 tackles. Linebacker William Castonguay led the team with 7 total tackles. 

Stingers football is on their bye week, and will be back on the field on Sept. 14 when they visit the defending U Sports National Champions the Montréal Carabins at 2 p.m.
