The Concordia Stingers men’s hockey team picked up two statement wins against Quebec rivals this week, highlighted by a historic victory on Pride Night that vaulted the program to the top of the national rankings.
The week began Wednesday night at McConnell Arena, where the Stingers edged the McGill Redbirds 3–2. Keanu Krenn, Simon Lavigne and Julien Paillé each found the back of the net for Concordia, while goaltender Nikolas Hurtubise was solid, turning aside 16 shots to secure the win.
Concordia followed that performance with a dominant showing on Saturday night at Ed Meagher Arena, defeating UQTR 5–1 on Pride Night. Facing the No. 1 team in the OUA East, the Stingers controlled the game from start to finish. Alex Gaudio, Mathieu Bizier, Hugo Primeau, Nicholas Girouard and Sean Larochelle all scored for Concordia, while Hurtubise continued his strong play in goal, stopping 18 shots to earn his ninth win of the season.
With the two victories, the Stingers improve to 14–8 on the season, sit second in the OUA East, and climb to No. 1 in the U SPORTS national rankings.
The Stingers now hit the road for games against Ontario Tech and Queen’s before returning home on Feb. 6 to host Carleton.
