Concordia Stingers men's hockey head coach Marc-André Élément has been named to the coaching staff of Team Canada for the 2027 Winter Universiade, set to take place in January in Changchun, China.
Élément will join UPEI Panthers head coach Forbes MacPherson, who will lead Canada’s men’s hockey team as it looks to defend the gold medal it won at the 2025 FISU Games in Torino, Italy.
The appointment continues a strong connection between the Stingers men's hockey program and Canada's FISU teams. Former Concordia players Simon Lavigne and Mathieu Bizier were members of the Canadian squad that captured gold at the 2025 FISU Games in Torino.
The Stingers are currently in Italy for a two-week trip that has become a tradition for the program in recent years. The trip provides an opportunity for team bonding while allowing the Stingers to test themselves against strong professional competition overseas.
The experience in Italy will serve as valuable preparation for the upcoming 2026-27 season, while Élément will also begin looking ahead to his role with Team Canada at the Winter Universiade in January.
