Men's hockey goes from unranked in preseason to #2 in Canada

Men’s hockey went up two spots in the national rankings this week, now sitting in second in U SPORTS, and first in the OUA with a 7-0-1 record and 15 points.

Men’s hockey faced the McGill Redbirds on Wednesday, Oct. 23 for a top-10 rivalry match-up. The Stingers came out on top with a 1-0 victory with the lone goal scored by forward Mikael Huchette and a 26-save performance by goaltender Nikolas Hurtubise for the shutout.

The Stingers extended their winning streak to seven games after beating the RMC Paladins by a final score of 5-2 on Saturday, Oct. 26. Forwards Gabriel Proulx, Mathieu Bizier, Nicholas Girouard, and defenceman Sean Larochelle each had a goal and an assist. Forward Blake Richardson also scored a goal. Huchette tallied three assists, and defenceman Christopher Inniss had two assists. Goaltender Brady James played his first OUA game and made 23 saves for the win.

Bizier is tied for the most goals in U SPORTS with seven, while defenceman Simon Lavigne is tied for second in the same category, leading all defencemen in U SPORTS with six goals.

Hurtubise is first in goals-against average (1.28) and third in save percentage (.945) in U SPORTS.

Men’s hockey will head to Ottawa this Wednesday to play the Carleton Ravens and will be back at home on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. to face off against the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
