Men's hockey back in the win column after victory over Queen's

Stingers' men's hockey defeated the Queen's Gaels 5-2 at home on Senior Day on Sunday, Jan. 19 after falling 2-1 on the road to the UQTR Patriotes on Jan. 15.

Forward Charles Savoie opened the scoring 7:45 into the first period to give the Stingers a 1-0 lead. Forward Edouard Charron doubled the lead with a minute left in the period. Queen's put themselves on the board 30 seconds later.

It took the Stingers less than 2 minutes into the second period to score again, this time a goal by forward Nicholas Girouard on a back-and-forth passing play with forward Mikael Huchette. Forwards Vincent Nardone and Julien Anctil added 2 goals to the tally in 1 minute. Queen's scored a goal later in the second, setting the final score to 5-2. Goaltender Nikolas Hurtubise made 16 saves for the win.

The Stingers sit on top of the OUA and are ranked #2 in U SPORTS with an 18-2-2 record and 38 points.

Hurtubise has the best goals-against average (2.00) in the OUA for goalies who have started in 10 games or more.

Huchette has the second-most assists and third-most points in the OUA, with 18 assists and 7 goals for a total of 25 points in 21 games.

Men's hockey will be on the road for their next 3 games and will be back at the Ed Meagher Arena for their last regular-season home game on Friday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. against Ontario Tech.
