The Concordia Stingers women’s rugby team delivered a dominant performance on Sunday, Oct. 4, defeating the Bishop's Gaiters 76-5 to capture the Kelly-Anne Drummond Cup.
The victory continues a remarkable run of success for the Stingers in the annual game. Concordia has not lost the Kelly-Anne Drummond Cup since 2017.
Sandrine Dumont and Faith Roche each found the try zone twice in the victory, while Marilou Bourdua and Olivia Miller contributed four conversions apiece.
Beyond the result on the field, Sunday’s game carried special meaning for the Stingers rugby community as the event honours the memory of Kelly-Anne Drummond, a former Concordia Stinger who died tragically on Oct. 4, 2004.
As part of the annual tradition, fifth-year senior Emma Marshall was awarded the Kelly-Anne Drummond Scholarship, valued at $2,500. The scholarship was presented by Kelly-Anne’s mother, Doreen Haddad.
The Stingers will now turn their attention to the final game of the regular season. Concordia travels to face the Université de Montréal on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m.
With the RSEQ standings still to be decided, a win would secure third place for the Stingers heading into the playoffs.
