Stingers open season with back-to-back wins over Nipissing and McGill

The Concordia Stingers men’s hockey team got its season off to a strong start, earning two wins in its opening weekend, including a shootout victory over Nipissing and an overtime win against McGill.

Concordia opened its campaign on Friday, Oct. 9, with a 4-3 shootout win over the Nipissing Lakers. Nathan Baril played a key role, scoring the game-tying goal to send the contest to overtime before finding the back of the net again in the shootout to secure the victory for the Stingers.

On Sunday, Concordia returned to the ice against the McGill Redbirds and came away with a thrilling 3-2 overtime win.

Isaiah Parent gave the Stingers the lead with his second goal of the weekend, but McGill rallied to take a 2-1 advantage in the third period. With less than four minutes remaining in regulation, Blake Richardson scored to tie the game and force overtime.

Hugo Primeau then sealed the victory in the extra frame, giving Concordia its second win of the weekend. Primeau finished the opening weekend with one goal and two assists.

The Stingers will look to build on their strong start as they continue their 2026-27 campaign.
