Okpro earns grid honor

Concordia Stinger half back and returner Sammy Okpro was named the Quebec University Football League special teams player of the week.

The second-year native of Pierrefonds, Que. was instrumental in helping the Stingers win their second straight game of the season - a 23-11 victory over the Bishop's Gaiters last Saturday.

Okpro returned three punts for 27 yards and took back a kickoff 55 yards, setting up Concordia's first touchdown of the game. He also had seven solo tackles on defence.

The finance student was named the outstanding player in Concordia's Homecoming game as selected by Montreal Gazette sports reporter Randy Phillips. He was presented the Homecoming Cup by Concordia vice-presidents Michael Di Grappa and Larry English.

Laval's Miguel Robede was the outstanding defensive player, while Montreal's Joseph Mroue was the offensive player of the week.
