Laconia lineman to join Stingers football team

When lineman Raige Hollis arrives at training camp this August, it will mark the first time since 2006 that the Concordia Stingers will have a football player from Laconia, N.H. on the roster.

Stinger head coach Mickey Donovan and assistant head coach Patrick Donovan came to Montreal from Laconia, N.H. in 2001. Mickey wrapped up his university football career in 2004 and Patrick finished in 2006.

"It's great to bring a guy from our hometown to a program that we really believe in," said Mickey Donovan. "He’s going to get a degree from our university and he’s going to be part of a great family."

In 2012-13, Hollis went to Stonehill College in Easton, Mass. on a football scholarship. He left the program and sat out last season.

Hollis, who checks in at six foot two and 340 pounds, was a two-time All-State player at Laconica High School. He was honored as a senior for his play at defensive tackle and as a junior for his performance at offensive guard.

"He's a really explosive player," said Patrick Donovan, the Stingers’ defensive co-ordinator. "He's very athletic for his size. He loves the weight room and all types of training. When he gets here, he's going to be hungry and he's going to work hard."

The big man runs a 4.9 40-yard dash. His max bench press is 405 pounds, his max squat is 600 pounds and his deadlift is 650 pounds.

While he was known in the local press as one of the most feared linemen in New Hampshire high school football, he is also respected for his character and as a good teammate.

"He's a guy who is going to come in here and have an immediate impact," said Mickey Donovan. "He's certainly going to start on one side of the line or another."
