Blanchard, Stingers edge hockey Gee-Gees

Trevor Blanchard's second power-play goal 58 seconds into the third period gave the Concordia Stingers a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gees in men's hockey action at the Ed Meagher Arena yesterday.

Blanchard, a second-year left wing from Sudbury, Ont., also scored the Stingers' second goal 25 seconds into the second period. The Leisure Science major now has two goals and five assists in four games, which puts him in the top 10 in OUA scoring this season. He is in a three-way tie for the seventh spot.

Mike Baslyk opened the scoring, also with a man advantage, two minutes into the game. Rookie defenceman Jesse Goodsell set up all three goals.

The Gee-Gees' scorers were Pierre-André Leblanc and James Wright.

Concordia rookie goaltender Sheldon Baerg enjoyed a solid 60 minutes, turning away 37 of 39 shots.

This weekend, the Stingers travel to Kingston, Ont. to face the Queen's Golden Gaels on Friday and the RMC Paladins on Saturday.
