Head coach Marc-André Element is pleased to announce Philippe Bureau-Blais, a talented offensive defenceman, has committed to the Concordia Stingers men’s hockey program.
“Philippe has a lot of offensive skills,” Element said. “He’s a puck mover and he’s going to be good on our power play. He’s very quick and fast for a defenceman.”
The five-foot-10, 155-pound native of Candiac, Que. played last year and the start of this season with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He played 68 games, picking up seven goals and 35 assists for 42 points with the Armada.
Bureau-Blais plans to finish out his junior career with Collège Français Longueuil of the Quebec Junior Hockey League. He will join the Stingers in the fall of 2016.
“I committed to Concordia because I was excited that (head coach) Marc-André (Element) approached me and the things he talked to me about,” Bureau-Blais said. “I am happy he contacted me because I wanted to go back to school.”
In 2014, he passed up a scholarship with Bowling Green University, a top NCAA men’s hockey program located in Ohio. Bureau-Blais is eager to turn his attention back to university hockey and hopes to pursue studies in business.
