Stingers blank No. 7 Pats

Goaltender Patrick Lepage turned away 24 shots to help the Concordia Stingers blank the No. 7-ranked UQTR Patriotes 2-0 in men’s hockey action on Sunday afternoon at the Ed Meagher Arena.

The third-year Rivières-de-Loup, Que. native recorded his first career shutout in spectacular fashion. He was unbeatable, staring down two of the top scorers in the country – UQTR’s Thiery Poudrier and Johnathan Boutin.

Notching goals for Concordia were Trevor Blanchard from Jesse Goodsell and Mike Baslyk at 10:42 of the first period and Michael Halitzki unassisted at 13:56 of the third period.

The two points help the Stingers’ playoff drive. To reach the post-season Concordia has to catch the RMC Paladins (15 points) or the Queen’s Golden Gaels (16 points). The Stingers have 12 points and a game at hand.

This week, Concordia is on the road versus the Ryerson Rams and the Toronto Varsity Blues. They return home to for a couple of pivotal games versus RMC on Feb. 2 and Queen’s on Feb. 3.
