Hylland, Stingers draw Ottawa Gee-Gees in hockey finals

Rookie sensation Tyler Hylland will lead the Concordia Stingers into the best-of-three OUA East finals against the Ottawa Gee-Gees beginning tonight in the nation's capital.

Hylland, a first-year left wing from Châteauguay, Que., has been at the centre of the Stingers’ success against the Ottawa Gee-Gees and on the team’s recent playoff run.

In the three regular season games between the teams, he had three goals and two assists to help Concordia take two of out three meetings. One of his goals against the Gee-Gees on Jan. 4 went viral and was ranked eighth in Sportsnet Plays of the Month in January. View  HERE .

Hylland has been a consistent scoring threat in Concordia’s first two playoffs series as well. He has five goals, including three on the power play, in five games.

Ottawa finished in third place in the 10-team OUA East conference with a 17-7-4 win-loss-overtime loss record. The Stingers were fifth with a 13-10-5 performance.

The Gee-Gees eliminated the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks and the UQTR Patriotes, each series went to three games, in the first two rounds of the playoffs. The Stingers took down McGill University in three games in the first round and then knocked off the No. 1-seeded Carleton Ravens in two straight games in the second round.

The winner of this OUA East final series will meet the winner of the OUA West conference in a gold medal game next weekend. Both finalists will have berths at the U Sports championship in Halifax March 12-15. The losers from the East and West finals will play a bronze medal game with the victor claiming the final spot at the national championship.
