Stinger hockey players are ultra committed to helping Leucan

Three members of the Concordia Stingers men's hockey team found a unique way to improve their conditioning for the upcoming season and to help an organization that promotes the recovery and well-being of cancer stricken children and supports their families.

Phélix Martineau, Vincent Martineau and Gabriel Proulx participated in a fundraising run on June 3 and raised $3100 for Leucan.

“It obviously a great cause,” said Phélix Martineau. “There’s nothing worse that children being sick. If we can help them and their families, it’s a good thing.”

It was a big commitment for the Stingers’ trio who took on a very specific and demanding run. The challenge was an ultra marathon and each of them ran 50 kilometres in less than 36 hours.

Phélix and his brother Vincent ran 21 kilometres in the morning and went back out in the evening to do the remaining 29-kilometre block.

The following day, Phélix shaved his head to further show his support for Leucan. He promised his sponsors that if he raised $1000, he would take the hair off. At last count, he personally had $1600 in donations.

While the event is over, Leucan is still accepting donations. You can find the Stingers' hockey fundraising page HERE .
