Stingers men's hockey team adds Alexandre Jacques to staff

Head coach Marc-André Elément is pleased to announce long-time Blainville-Boisbriand Armada assistant coach Alexandre Jacques has accepted a full-time position with the Concordia Stingers men’s hockey program.

Jacques brings an impressive hockey résumé with him from his lengthy professional career and eight years of coaching in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with the Armada.

“He’s going to help us with all aspects of our game,” said Elément. “He has a lot of experience and knowledge. I think we’re fortunate to have him with the program and I’m looking forward to working together.”

Jacques is well-respected for his ability to communicate and his work in player development. He is a Hockey Canada certified skills coach. He has already worked with several Stingers who have come through the Blainville-Boisbriand program, including former Concordia captain Philippe Sanche.

During his playing career, Jacques was a standout with the Shawinigan Cataractes and the Rimouski Océanic in the QMJHL. In 1996-97 with Shawinigan, the right wing collected a career high 41 goals and 60 assists for 101 points in 70 games. In 1996 he was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the sixth round, 182nd overall.

He went on to play more than a dozen years at the professional level primarily with Detroit’s farm teams, the Adirondack Red Wings and the Toledo Storm, and then in Germany with the Bietigheim Steelers.

“I really believe in what we have to offer here at Concordia,” said Jacques. “For me I went from junior hockey right way to the pros. I would’ve had more fun and been more relaxed if I had completed a diploma first to help after my career was done. That’s what I tell players now.

“The Stingers are a good fit for me and we’ll have a lot of fun together.”
