Three Stingers named to RSEQ women's basketball all-stars teams

Serena Tchida is the RSEQ nominee for the U SPORTS Tracy MacLeod Award, which rewards determination, perseverance, and unwavering spirit.

Forward Serena Tchida was named to the Women’s Basketball RSEQ first All-Star team. Point guard Areej Burgonio and guard Rowena Blais were named second team All-Stars.

Tchida led the team in points and rebounds this season, averaging 15.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Her field goal percentage of 50.3 has Tchida ranked 3rd in the RSEQ, while her points per game average was second best in the conference. The third-year forward is also the RSEQ nominee for the U SPORTS Tracy MacLeod Award, which rewards determination, perseverance, and unwavering spirit. Additionally, Tchida was named to the All-Rookie team in 2021-22 and was the Stingers female athlete of the week twice this season.

Burgonio averaged 10.2 points, 5.1 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. Her total of 82 assists this season has her ranked eighth in the country, and her 36.1 minutes per game is the third highest in U SPORTS. The fifth-year point guard was named to the first All-Star team in 2022-23 and to the All-Rookie team in 2018-19. Burgonio was the Stingers female athlete of the week for the week of Nov. 26-Dec. 2, 2023.

Blais averaged 10.4 points, 2 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. She made 29 three-point shots on 96 attempts, ranking her 8th in the RSEQ. Her 34.1 minutes per game were the 3rd highest in Quebec. The second-year guard had two 20+ points game performances this season. Additionally, Blais was named to the All-Rookie Team in 2022-23.

Tchida is studying Marketing and Blais is studying Psychology. Burgonio will be graduating with a degree in Sociology this spring.
