Men’s basketball extended their winning streak to 9, still ranked 2nd in the RSEQ with a 9-1 record and 18 points.
They beat the Citadins 80-69 on Thursday, Jan. 30. Guard Alex Phaneuf led the Stingers with 21 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. Centre Karam Sahly tallied 12 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block, while Ba-Amara Djame led the team with 8 rebounds also contributing 9 points, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block.
Men’s basketball beat UQAM again on Saturday, Feb. 1, by a final score of 76-54. Phaneuf led the team again in points, with 16 points, 5 assists, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal. Guard Miguel Doyon-Jeremy contributed 11 points and 2 rebounds.
Women’s basketball dominated the Citadins 96-49 on Thursday during their Shoot for the Cure game, raising awareness for breast cancer research and honouring survivors. Shooting guard Victoria Lawrence led the team with 18 points, 8 steals, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Centre Serena Tchida tallied 17 points, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds.
The Stingers defeated UQAM again on Saturday by a final score of 78-52. Guard Nelly Owusu led with 23 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 block. Tchida also contributed 14 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals, and 1 assist.
Stingers basketball will be back on home court on Thursday, Feb. 6. Women’s basketball will start the doubleheader against Bishop’s at 6 p.m.
