The Stingers beat the UQTR Patriotes on Wednesday, Oct. 16 by a final score of 4-1. Defenceman Simon Lavigne opened the scoring with a powerplay goal in the first period. Forward Nicholas Girouard doubled the lead on the powerplay less than a minute into the middle frame. Forward Loïck Daigle scored later in the second, and forward Mathieu Bizier cemented the win with an empty-net goal. Forward Charles Savoie finished the game with 2 assists, and goaltender Nikolas Hurtubise made 24 saves.
The Stingers faced the TMU Bold on Friday, Oct. 18 at home and defeated them 5-2. Forward Mikael Huchette scored his first 2 goals of his U SPORTS career. Lavigne and Bizier each scored on the powerplay, and Girouard scored an empty-netter. Forwards Isiah Campbell, Alexander Gaudio, and defenceman Nathan Lavoie each tallied 2 assists. Hurtubise made 23 saves.
Lavigne and Bizier are tied for the most goals in U SPORTS with six each in the first six games, while Lavigne also leads all defencemen in that category.
Hurtubise leads the OUA in goals-against average (1.50) and save percentage (.935) for goalies who have played 4 games or more.
The Stingers will be back at the Ed Meagher Arena on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. to face off against the McGill Redbirds.
