After earning two more wins, men’s hockey find themselves on a 9-game winning streak.
The Stingers sit on top of the OUA and are ranked third in U SPORTS with a 9-0-1 record and 19 points.
In a close game that went to overtime, the Stingers came out victorious by a final score of 3-2 against the Carleton Ravens on Oct. 31. Forward Nicholas Girouard opened the scoring with a powerplay goal in the first period. Carleton took the lead in the middle frame, but forward Mathieu Bizier tied the game shortly after. Forward Mikael Huchette scored the game-winning goal in OT, and goaltender Nikolas Hurtubise made 21 saves.
Men’s hockey faced the Ottawa Gee-Gees at home in a nail-biter on Saturday, Nov. 2, ultimately winning by a final score of 4-3. Girouard once again opened the scoring in the first period. Defenceman Simon Lavigne doubled the lead a minute into the second frame and scored on the powerplay 10 minutes later. It was a shorthanded goal by Edouard Charron in the third period that won them the game. Hurtubise made 25 saves.
Bizier and Lavigne are tied for second in goals in U SPORTS (8 goals in 10 games each), while Lavigne leads all defencemen in that category.
Hurtubise is first in save percentage (.935) and second in goals-against average (1.54) in U SPORTS for goalies who have started in 6 games or more.
Men’s hockey will be back at home on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. to face off against the McGill Redbirds for the Corey Cup.
