Concordia appoints new Director of Recreation and Athletics

Claude Morin has been appointed Concordia’s new Director of Recreation and Athletics. He will begin his mandate on May 1, 2026.

Morin joins Concordia from Cégep André-Laurendeau, where he served as Athletic Director for 16 years. During his tenure, he developed and structured the college’s athletic department into one of the most recognized programs at the provincial and national levels, earning two national championships, 18 provincial championships, seven conference titles and 13 regular-season titles.

“We’re pleased to welcome Claude to Concordia,” says Sabrina Lavoie, associate vice-president, Campus Services and Sustainability. “His proven ability to build high-performing programs, support student-athlete success and lead with vision and energy will be a tremendous asset to our community.”

A former professional hockey player with a 14-year career in Europe and North America, Morin also competed in NCAA Division I hockey and graduated from Clarkson University in New York. His experience as both a student-athlete and sport administrator continues to inform his leadership approach.

“I’m committed to ensuring the quality and continued growth of the program while helping student-athletes reach their full potential,” says Morin. “Supporting their academic and athletic success, and providing an outstanding university experience, will always be a top priority for me.”

As Director, Morin will oversee Concordia’s Recreation and Athletics programs, focusing on student-athlete development, high-performance sport, and community engagement.

Lavoie adds that Morin’s leadership will not only strengthen Concordia’s varsity programs but also expand recreation across campus. “He brings a strong track record of aligning programs with institutional priorities while ensuring quality, accountability and impact,” she says. “His vision for enhancing facilities and equipment, and expanding programming, will create more opportunities for students to connect, stay active and thrive.”

Morin adds that he plans to engage students directly to better understand their needs and ideas while also exploring emerging trends in today’s world of recreation.

“I believe that campus recreation can be a driver for student success in ways other areas cannot,” explains Morin. “Our mission is to ensure that every member of this community has a place to thrive by providing enriching experiences that support physical, mental, and social growth.”

Morin’s experience is complemented by expertise in strategic planning, human resources, budgeting, fundraising and communications, reflecting a well-rounded leadership profile shaped by both sport and organizational management.

“I am grateful for the opportunity and confidence placed in me,” he adds. “I look forward to building a vision that elevates the Stingers and strengthens recreation, making Concordia a leading destination for athletics and campus wellness in Montreal.”
