Drapeau and Lavigne Named Top Athletes at Stingers Gala

The Concordia Stingers celebrated a year of athletic and academic excellence at their annual awards gala, honouring top performers across the program.

Jessymaude Drapeau and Simon Lavigne headlined the night as Concordia’s Athletes of the Year. Both delivered exceptional seasons, earning U SPORTS All-Canadian honours and major national awards—Drapeau as U SPORTS Women’s Hockey Player of the Year, and Lavigne as U SPORTS Defenceman of the Year, marking the first time a Stinger has received the honour.

Drapeau also received the Michael Di Grappa Award of Distinction alongside women’s basketball standout Serena Tchida, recognizing career excellence over their time as Stingers. Tchida capped off her Concordia career with a dominant season, earning RSEQ Player of the Year and First Team All-Canadian honours.

The Marvin Cooper Award for Comeback Player of the Year went to Sami Jahan, whose resilient return saw him earn RSEQ Second Team All-Star recognition—his fourth career all-star selection.

Rosalie Parent (women’s hockey) and Kalan Despa (men’s rugby) were named Fittest Athletes. Parent also earned Top Academic Athlete honours with a perfect 4.3 GPA in Industrial Engineering, alongside hockey’s Xavier Laurent, who posted a 4.15 GPA in Exercise Science.

Rookies of the Year Angélie Jobin (women’s hockey) and Ély Rivest (football) were recognized for their immediate impact, highlighting a strong future for the Stingers.

Leadership Awards went to Jordyn Verbeek (women’s hockey) and Mathieu Bizier (men’s hockey) for their influence on and off the ice.

The evening highlighted the Stingers’ continued commitment to excellence—on the field, in the classroom, and within the community.
