Nicolas D'Aoust scored two goals to lead the Concordia Stingers to a 4-1 victory over the No. 3-ranked UQTR Patriotes in men’s hockey action at the Ed Meagher Arena Wednesday night.
D’Aoust, a rookie right wing from Lorainne, Que., scored the first two goals of the game.
Marc-André Rizk and Nicolas Lafontaine stretched the Stingers’ lead to 4-0 in the second period.
Tommy Lafontaine scored the Patriotes’ only goal with 41 seconds left in the game.
Goaltender Michael Dupont started the game for UQTR. He gave up four goals on 27 shots in two periods. He was replaced by J. Christophe Blanchard at the start of the third.
Sheldon Baerg was the winning goalie. He turned away 36 of 37 shots.
D’Aoust, who played in the QMJHL with the Val d’Or Foreurs and Drummondville Voltigeurs, is the leading scorer on the Stingers with 14 goals and 19 assists for 33 points in 25 games. He is ranked sixth in OUA scoring.
The Stingers are in second place in the OUA Far East with a 14-7-4 record. Concordia hosts the Carleton Ravens on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and the McGill Redmen on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Stingers wrap up the regular season with a rematch against UQTR on Feb. 13.
