Two members of the Concordia Stingers were honored when the OUA announced its men’s hockey all-stars earlier this month.
Right wing Nicolas D’Aoust was named to the OUA all-rookie team. He led the Stingers in scoring with 15 goals and 20 assists for 35 points in 28 regular season games.
After two years in the QMJHL with Val d’Or and Drumondville, D’Aoust left to play in the Quebec Junior AAA league with the St. Eustache Patriotes. In 2007-‘08, he scored 54 goals and 55 assists for 109 points in 51 games with the Patriotes.
The Lorraine, Que. native brought his competitiveness and scoring edge to the Concordia Stingers in 2008-’09. His transition to university hockey was swift. He quickly picked up the pace and found he could solve most OUA goalies.
“D’Aoust exceeded our expectations in his first year,” said head coach Kevin Figsby. “He adapted very well to the style of play at the university level. From an offensive perspective he’s top point-producing rookie that we’ve brought into the program in the last 10 years.”
Veteran centre Mike Baslyk was named to the OUA East second all-star team. The Montreal native played 19 regular season games, picking up 11 goals and 15 assists for 26 points. He also collected two goals and two assists in a best-of-three playoff series with the Carleton Ravens.
