Gaw, Caron named Athletes of the Week

Hughanna Gaw of the women's rugby team and Max Caron of the football team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Sept. 11.

Gaw, a third-year Stinger, put in a tremendous effort in Concordia's 24-8 loss to the Laval Rouge et Or on Sunday. The Stingers went into the game as the No. 3 team in the CIS, while the Rouge et Or were ranked fifth. Playing the No. 8 position, Gaw scored the Stingers' only try and led the team in tackles.

A 22-year-old native of Elgin, Que., Gaw is currently studying Leisure Sciences at Concordia.

Caron's efforts were instrumental in helping the Concordia Stingers defeat the Bishop's Gaiters 25-18 on Saturday afternoon. The second-year linebacker made seven solo tackles and had five assists. He was also involved in three turnovers. He forced a fumble, recovered a fumble and blocked a punt that changed the momentum of the close game.

The 23-year-old student from Kingston, Ont. studies in the Political Science program at Concordia.
