Gaw, Caron named Athletes of the Week

Hughanna Gaw of the women's rugby team and Max Caron of the football team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Sept. 25.

Gaw, a third-year No. 8, was exceptional in Concordia’s 39-5 victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Sunday. The 2009 CIS Rookie of the Year scored four tries for 20 points in the game. She was a dominant force and was also the leading tackler. The Stingers now have a 2-1 win-loss record in league play.

A 23-year-old native of Elgin, Que., Gaw is currently studying Leisure Sciences at Concordia.

Caron, a second-year linebacker, was a bright spot in a tough 33-26 loss to the Sherbrooke Vert & Or last Friday. He had 13 solos and three assists for 14.5 tackles. He also had an interception that he returned 64 yards for a touchdown. He led all tacklers in the Quebec conference last weekend. The 14.5 tackles was the fourth best single game performance in league history. He currently leads the CIS in tackles with 43 in four games this season.

His efforts also earned him RSEQ Defensive Player of the Week honors.
