Sherrard, Robertson named Athletes of the Week

Alyssa Sherrard of the women's hockey team and Kris Robertson of the football team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 9.

Sherrard, a second-year centre, was outstanding in Concordia’s tight 7-5 loss to the defending national champion McGill Martlets in the women’s hockey season opener last Friday. She made things happen offensively, picking up a goal and an assist in the game. She also played well in her own end.

A 19-year-old native of Bathurst, N.B., Sherrard is currently studying Human Relations at Concordia.

Robertson, a third-year returner and defensive back, tied the Quebec conference record for most punt return yards in a game. He returned 10 punts for 214 yards and one of those runs went 69 yards for a touchdown. His efforts helped Concordia defeat the McGill Redmen 39-16 in the annual Shrine Bowl game last Saturday.

Robertson was also named the Special Teams Player of the Week in the Quebec conference and in the CIS.

The 20-year-old student from Pickering, Ont. studies in the Sociology program at Concordia.
