Guiliani, Champion named Athletes of the Week

Jenna Guiliana of the women's rugby team and Nicholas Champion of the men’s hockey team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 16.

Guiliani, a second-year fullback, was outstanding in Concordia’s 56-19 win over the Sherbrooke Vert & Or on Sunday, the final day of the women’s rugby regular season. She scored four tries in the victory which gives Concordia a 4-2 win-loss record and secures second place in the conference. She repeatedly broke defensive lines with her running, kicking and chasing. Defensively, she had great counter attacks constantly putting the opposition under pressure on or near their own goal line.

A 20-year-old native of Châteauguay, Que., Guiliani is currently studying Psychology at Concordia.

Champion, a first-year goaltender, was a key component in two wins on the weekend. Last Friday night he turned away 38 of 39 shots to help the Stingers defeat the Brock Badgers 5-1. The following day, he made 30 of 34 saves to lead Concordia to a 5-4 victory over the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks. His save percentage in the two games is an impressive .932.
