Véronique Laramée-Paquette of the women's hockey team and Max Caron of the football team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 30.
Laramée-Paquette, a fourth-year left wing, was a key component in the Stingers' 5-4 shootout victory over the Montréal Carabins last Friday. She scored a goal in regulation time and scored the winning goal in the shootout. She is currently the leading scorer on the Stingers with four goals and three assists for seven points in five games. Her seven points is also tops in the RSEQ conference.
A 21-year-old native of Mont-Tremblant, Que., Laramée-Paquette is currently studying History and Education at Concordia.
Caron, a second-year linebacker, finished the regular season by rewriting the RSEQ record book and helping the Stingers win the Shaughnessy Cup 58-30 over the McGill Redmen last Saturday. He finished the game with six solo tackles, two assists and two interceptions, including one for a 96-yard touchdown. With 78.5 total tackles, he set the conference record for most tackles in a season. He also set the record for most interceptions returned for touchdowns. The 96-yard was his third of the year. For his efforts, he was named both RSEQ and CIS Defensive Player of the Week.
The 22-year-old student from Kingston, Ont. studies in the Political Science program at Concordia.
