Emilie Bocchia of the women's hockey team and Nick Champion of the men’s hockey team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 29.
Bocchia, a third-year left wing, was a major contributor in Concordia’s only game last week. She scored all three goals in a 4-3 loss to the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Sunday. She score a goal in each period, including a power-play marker in the first period.
A 21-year-old native of St. Leonard, Que., Bocchia is currently studying Marketing and International Business at Concordia.
Champion, a first-year goaltender, was instrumental in helping the Stingers pick up two big points last week. He backstopped the team to a 4-3 overtime win over the No. 10-ranked UQTR Patriotes last Wednesday. He turned away 35 shots in 63:55 minutes of play.
The 21-year-old student from Labrador City, Nfld. is studying Environmental Science at Concordia.
