Maggie MacNeil of the women's hockey team and Evens Laroche of the men’s basketball team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Feb. 19.
MacNeil, a fifth-year centre, was a key contributor in the women’s hockey team’s 6-2 victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gees last Friday. The graduating senior picked up a goal and an assist in the last home game of her career. Head coach Les Lawton said the MacNeil played her best game of the year. She also played well in a 3-0 loss to the top-ranked McGill Martlets on Sunday, which was the last game of the season.
A 23-year-old native of Antigonish, N.S., MacNeil is currently studying Sociology and Anthropology at Concordia.
Last week, Laroche was instrumental in helping the Stingers win two basketball games and clinch first place in the Quebec conference. In a 63-58 victory over the Bishop’s Gaiters last Friday, he collected 19 points and six rebounds. The following day he led his team to a 62-61 win over the McGill Redmen. He had nine points and 12 rebounds in the match.
The 25-year-old student from Montreal is studying Human Relations at Concordia.
