Erika Ikonomopoulos of the women's rugby team and Keegan Treloar of the football team have been named the PJ’s Pub Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Sept. 16.
Ikonomopoulos, a second-year prop, was outstanding in two Concordia victories this past week. In the annual Kelly-Anne Drummond Cup versus the McGill Martlets last Wednesday, she scored two tries in an 18-7 win. Then on Saturday, she scored three more tries to lead Concordia to a 41-7 victory over the Carleton Ravens. Head coach Graeme McGravie says five tries in two games from the prop position is exceptional. He also applauded her strong play in scrums.
A 21-year-old native of Laval, Que., Ikonomopoulos is currently studying Theology at Concordia.
Treloar’s play was instrumental in helping the Stingers defeat the St. Francis Xavier X-Men 41-20 on Saturday. The second-year kicker connected on six of six field goals and he added three converts for 21 points in the game. The six field goals puts him in a four-way tie for third best single game performance in RSEQ university football history. His longest field goal was 41 yards, but he also connected from 16, 17, 18, 20 and 37 yards. He was named the Concordia player of the game for his efforts. Also, the RSEQ named him its special teams player of the week.
