Jennifer Duff of the women's soccer team and Joey Fulginiti of the men’s rugby team have been named the PJ’s Pub Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Sept. 30.
Duff, a fourth-year forward, was outstanding in two Concordia soccer games this past week. In a 2-2 tie with the Laval Rouge et Or last Friday she had a goal, an assist and was the game MVP. She also had a solid effort in a 3-2 victory over the UQTR Patriotes on Sunday. She scored a goal and was the game MVP once again. The tie and win are critical for the Stingers who are fighting for a playoff spot.
A 23-year-old native of Moncton, N.B., Duff is currently studying Urban Planning at Concordia.
Joey Fulginiti’s play was instrumental in helping the Stingers defeat the Bishop’s Gaiters 17-8 last Friday night. The first-year winger contributed seven of 17 points to the winning effort. His 46-yard penalty kick in the dying seconds of the first half changed the momentum of the game and allowed Stingers to go into the halftime break on the front foot. In addition to punishing Bishop's with his foot he played solid defence, helping to shut down the Bishop's backs and denying them the vital line breaks.
The 21-year-old student from Ile Bizard, Que. studies in the Finance program at Concordia.
