Concordia-McGill hockey rivalry resumes tonight

Tonight the fierce rivalry between the Concordia Stingers and the McGill Redmen hockey teams will be ignited at the 26th edition of the Corey Cup, symbolic of men’s university hockey supremacy in Montreal.

The Corey Cup was dedicated in 1988 by Ronald Corey, then president and governor of the National Hockey League's Montreal Canadiens.

This year’s edition will be played at Concordia’s Ed Meagher Arena, 7200 Sherbrooke St. W., on the Loyola campus. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.

The Corey Cup is the season opener for both teams, but last year the clubs split their four-game series. The Stingers won 3-2 in overtime last Oct. 23 at home and 4-2 at McGill on Feb. 3. The Redmen’s victories came on Oct. 28 by a 3-2 score and at the last Corey Cup on Feb. 8 when they blanked the Stinger 5-0.

To celebrate the start of the OUA men’s hockey season, it’s $1 hot dog night. Beginning at 5 p.m. you can get your $1 hot dogs at Stinger Café. You can also catch some of the men’s basketball game versus the Queen’s Gaels that gets under way at 6 p.m. See two great events for one price as tickets will be honored at both games.

Tickets

Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for non-Concordia students and $3 for seniors. Children 12-and-under are admitted free of charge.
