Travers, Lovatsis named PJ's Pub Athletes of the Week

Shannon Travers of the women's soccer team and George Lovatsis of the men’s hockey team have been named the PJ’s Pub Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 7.

Travers, a third-year defender, was outstanding in a key Concordia soccer game this past week. She was named MVP in a 2-2 tie with the No. 6-ranked McGill Martlets last Wednesday. She assisted on one of the Stingers’ goals and was also exceptional on defence.

A 23-year-old native of Dollard des Ormeaux, Que., Travers is currently studying Accountancy at Concordia.

Lovatsis, a fourth-year centre, scored the first two goals to pace the Stingers to a 6-5 victory in the 26th annual Corey Cup game versus the McGill Redmen last Friday night. It was the first time since 2002 that the Stingers won the annual clash with McGill. His second marker was an impressive short-handed goal. He also had an assist in the game.

The 22-year-old student from Markham, Ont. studies in the Applied Human Sciences program at Concordia.
