Richelle Gregoire of the women's basketball team and Kris Bastien of the football team have been named the PJ’s Pub Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 14.
Gregoire, a rookie forward, helped lead Concordia to victory at the 45th annual Waterloo Naismith Tournament on the weekend. She was named the MVP at the competition. She scored 52 points and added 19 rebounds to set the pace for victories over Waterloo, Cape Breton and Northern British Columbia. In the final game, a 66-52 win over UNBC, she had a double-double – 15 points and 10 rebounds.
A 21-year-old native of Ste. Therese, Que., Gregoire is currently studying Sociology at Concordia.
Bastien, a third-year slotback, caught a 19-yard touchdown pass with 13 seconds left on the clock to lift the Concordia Stingers to a 43-40 victory over the McGill Redmen in the 44th annual Shaughnessy Cup game at Molson Stadium on Saturday.
Bastien, who returned to the lineup that afternoon after sitting out several games with an injury, made a big impact. He caught six passes for 55 yards and scored two touchdowns. His first touchdown came on an eight-yard reception five minutes into the second quarter.
The 22-year-old student from St. Lambert, Que. studies in the Leisure Sciences program at Concordia.
