Morais, Tremblay PJ's Pub Athletes of the Week

Linda Morais and David Tremblay of the wrestling team have been named the PJ’s Pub Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending March 3.

Morais, a second-year athlete, was the lone Concordia entry in the women’s competition at the CIS wrestling championships in London, Ont., March 1-2. She won a gold medal in the 63-kilo competition.

She was undefeated in the opening rounds and then beat Marlen Figueroa from University of Alberta by scores of 0-1, 2-0, 4-0. With the gold medal performance, she achieved first team CIS all-Canadian status.

A 19-year-old native of Tecumseh, Ont., Morais is currently studying Exercise Science at Concordia.

Tremblay, a fifth-year athlete competing at the CIS championship at 61 kilos, won his fifth straight gold medal. His name goes into the CIS record books as he is only the third male wrestler to reach this prestigious milestone.

He is the first Concordia athlete to win five gold medals in five years of eligibility. He also earned his fifth first team CIS all-Canadian honor. As well, Tremblay was named the outstanding male wrestler at the championship. He was undefeated in the preliminary rounds and then beat Dylan Williams from University of Alberta in the gold medal match. Tremblay won 7-0, 9-2.

The 25-year-old student from Stoney Point, Ont. is studying Leisure Sciences at Concordia.
