Roy-Viau, Chmielewski - PJ's Pub Athletes of the Week

Marilyse Roy-Viau of the women’s basketball team and Adam Chmielewski of the men’s basketball team have been named the PJ’s Pub Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 19.

Roy-Viau, a forward who is in her second year of eligibility, was the top performer in back-to-back games versus the Laval Rouge et Or on the weekend. In a 60-38 victory on Thursday, she scored eight points and added eight rebounds and five assists. On Saturday she scored 18 points and had another seven rebounds and five assists in a 58-50 victory.

A 22-year-old native of Mirabel, Que., Roy-Viau is currently enrolled in the Family Education program at Concordia.

Chmielewski, a third-year guard, was exceptional in two victories over the Laval Rouge et Or last week. Thursday at Laval, the Stingers rolled the Rouge et Or 73-63. Chmielewski led the way with 19 points, including three 3-pointers. On Saturday at home, Concordia struggled in the rematch and trailed by 16 points early in the second half. Again Chmielewski proved to be a force, stepping up and leading the Stingers to a big 62-57 come-from-behind victory. He finished up with 12 points and eight rebounds.

The 24-year-old student from Montreal studies in the Economics program at Concordia.
