Barrett, Mastropietro - PJ's Pub Athletes of the Week

Kaylah Barrett of the women’s basketball team and Antonio Mastropietro of the men’s hockey team have been named the PJ’s Pub Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 26.

Barrett, a fourth-year all-Canadian guard, was the top performer in back-to-back wins over the No. 6-ranked McGill Martlets last week. In a 63-53 victory last Thursday, she scored 18 points and added seven rebounds. Two days later she scored 18 points and had another five rebounds in a 49-47 victory. She led all scorers in both games. The wins move the Stingers into sole possession of first place in the RSEQ standings.

A 22-year-old native of Brampton, Ont., Barrett is currently enrolled in the Urban Studies program at Concordia.

Mastropietro, a second-year goaltender, was exceptional in two victories on the road last week. On Friday, he backstopped the Stingers in a 3-2 shootout victory over the Nipissing Lakers. He turned away 32 of 34 shots. The following day he was outstanding in a 6-2 win over the Laurentian Voyageurs. He stopped 31 of 33 shots. The four points were extremely important to the Stingers as they are jockeying for playoff position in the final few weeks of the regular season.
