After more than 20 years with the Concordia Stingers rugby programs, Clive Gibson has announced his retirement.
Gibson joined the Stingers men's rugby program as an assistant coach in 1995 and took over the head coaching duties the following season. Since then he has coached and/or managed both the men's and women's programs.
Concordia's six men's rugby provincial championships (1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005 and 2014) have all come under his leadership.
Going forward Graeme McGravie, head coach of the Stingers women’s program, will step into a bigger role. He will manage both programs and continue as the head coach on the women’s side.
The Department of Recreation and Athletics is now accepting applications for the position of head coach of the varsity men’s rugby team. Recruiting, staffing and development of student-athletes are primary responsibilities for this role.
The head coach will prepare the Stingers for both sevens (winter) and 15s competition (fall). A commitment to engaging alumni and community outreach is also expected.
A university degree, minimum of three years of rugby coaching experience and NCCP Level II certification is required. NCCP Level III certification is preferred. Proficiency in English and French are also mandatory.
