Ricardo Monge earns U SPORTS all-Canadian award

Concordia captain Ricardo Monge, who was instrumental in leading the Stingers to the RSEQ men's basketball regular season and playoff championships, has been named a U SPORTS second team all-Canadian.

A Finance student from Gatineau, Que., Monge finished the season with an average of 15.5 points (4th in the RSEQ) and led the league in steals (2.3) and assists (5.5). His great steals average ranked him fifth in U SPORTS.

The veteran guard was also the MVP in Quebec university men’s basketball conference.

“I am extremely proud of Ricardo and think this is a well-deserved honour for someone who has worked tirelessly for five years,” said Stingers head coach Rastko Popovic. “His outstanding work ethic, dedication and commitment to becoming a complete player have clearly been illustrated over the last five seasons.”

Monge is the first Stinger to earn all-Canadian honours since Evens Laroche was named to the second team in 2012.

Concordia will compete in the national championship hosted by Dalhousie University in Halifax tomorrow through Sunday. The Stingers open with a quarterfinal game versus the Ryerson Rams tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET.
