Concordia awarded 9 spots on rugby all-star teams

Nine members of the Concordia Stingers men's rugby program were on the honour roll when the RSEQ announced its all-star teams on Thursday.

The Stingers dominated the first team, taking six of the 15 spots in the seven-team league. Prop Stephen Martinez, centre Thomas Goetz, No. 8 Zach Pelletier, hooker Michael Laplaine-Pereira, scrum half Jerome Levesque and rookie fullback Stan Blazkowski were on the first team.

Martinez, Goetz, Laplaine-Pereira and Levesque are repeat winners. All earned honours in 2018 as well.

Rookie centre Aidan McMullan, who was the leading scoring in the Quebec conference with three tries, 24 converts and two penalty kicks in five games, was a second team all-star. He’s joined by second row Dylan MacDonald and flanker Eliott Goussanou. The latter two were also all-stars in 2018.

Concordia recorded a third straight perfect season in 2019. Head coach Craig Beemer and his team rolled up a 6-0 win-loss record in the RSEQ regular season.

The first-place Stingers will host the fourth-place Montréal Carabins in semifinal action on Saturday at 1 p.m. The game takes place at Concordia Stadium, 7200 Sherbrooke St. W.
