Four Stingers named to men's rugby conference all-star teams

Four members of the Concordia Stingers men's rugby team were on the honour roll when the RSEQ announced its all-stars today.

Aidan McMullan and Arthur Du Chaffaut were named to the first team, while Thomas Artmann and Laurence-Olivier Belley were second team all-stars.

McMullan, a second-year centre, scored two tries and added seven converts in five games. In last week’s 37-21 semifinal victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gees, he picked up a try and was named the game MVP.

This is McMullan’s second league honour. He was also a second team all-star in 2019.

A resident of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Que., the team captain is studying Building Engineering.

Du Chaffaut, a rookie fullback, was the leading scorer on the Stingers. In five regular season games, he scored two tries and kicked five converts and five penalties for 35 points. He added another three converts and two penalties to his totals in the semifinal game. Du Chaffaut, who hails from Barcelona, Spain, is an International Business student.

Artmann had an impressive first year with the Stingers. The No. 8 played six games, picking up two tries and two converts. He was also named the game MVP on two occasions. He scored another two tries in the semifinal. The resident of Montreal West is studying Engineering.

Belley is a third-year player from Longueuil, Que. He is an old fashioned hard-nosed prop who is the cornerstone of the pack. He played six games and scored one try this season. He is also studying Engineering at Concordia.

The Stingers will play the McGill Redbirds at Molson Stadium on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the RSEQ championship.
