The Concordia Stingers men's rugby team will look for its fourth consecutive RSEQ title when it crosses town to meet the McGill Redbirds in the Quebec university championship on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Molson Stadium.
Concordia finished in second place in the RSEQ with a 5-1-win-loss record and 24 points. McGill finished in first place, also with a 5-1 record, but the Redbirds accumulated 25 points and edged out the Stingers because of the conference’s bonus point system.
The teams met just once in the regular season. The Stingers won 14-6 on Oct. 2 at Concordia Stadium.
In the semifinals last Saturday, the Stingers beat the third-place Ottawa Gee-Gees 37-21, while McGill took down the fourth-ranked Bishop’s Gaiters 30-27.
Concordia has 10 Quebec championship titles to its credit dating back to the inception of the league record keeping in 1989. McGill has 15 conference wins over the same period.
The winner of the game will advance to the Canadian University Men’s Rugby Championship Nov. 24-28 at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ont.
