Concordia Stingers ranked No. 5 for men's rugby nationals

The Concordia Stingers have been ranked No. 5 by the Canadian University Men's Rugby Championship organizing committee ahead of the eight-team national tournament that takes place next week in Kingston, Ont.

The RSEQ champion Stingers will meet the host Queen’s Gaels in quarter-finals on Nov. 24 at 5 p.m. The Gaels finished first in the OUA East with a 4-0 win-loss record, but lost the Ontario championship 37-28 to the Guelph Gryphons. Queen’s is the fourth seed.

The UBC Thunderbirds have the top spot, followed by Guelph and the defending champion University of Victoria Vikes, respectively.

Rounding out the remaining spots are the Dalhousie Tigers at No. 6, followed by the Calgary Dinos and the RMC Paladins are the final seed.

The Stingers and the Gaels met in the bronze medal game at the 2019 men’s rugby nationals. Queen’s won the contest by a score of 31-22.

The semifinals will take place Nov. 26. Consolation and medals games will be held Nov. 28.
