Areej Burgonio, Alex Katerinakis - Athletes of the Week

Areej Burgonio of the women's basketball team and Alex Katerinakis of the men's hockey team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 13, 2022.

Burgonio, a fourth-year guard, was instrumental in helping Concordia pick up its first win of the season. She led all scorers in the game with 19 points in an impressive 55-44 victory over the McGill Martlets on Saturday. She also had six assists and five rebounds. She had another strong performance with 13 points and seven assists in an 82-56 loss to the Bishop’s Gaiters last Thursday.

Three games into the regular season, she is averaging 16.3 points a game.

A 22-year-old from Toronto, Burgonio is studying Sociology at Concordia.

Katerinakis, a third-year forward, helped the Stingers split a key two-game series with the No. 2-ranked UQTR Patriotes. In the first meeting last Friday, he scored two power play goals in a 4-2 victory. He added another marker in a tough 5-3 loss the following day.

After 10 games, he has seven goals and four assists for 11 points to his credit.

The 24-year-old student-athlete from Montreal studies in the John Molson School of Business.
