Eric Van Thiel and Mathieu Lassalle – two key members of the Concordia Stingers – were named to the QSSF men’s rugby all-star team that was announced last week.
Van Thiel, who played 8-man, was a driving force in almost every Stinger game this season. In addition to his massive contribution on defence, he was a key component of the attack, consistently taking the ball forward and keeping it alive to keep the drive moving forward.
The third-year Mechanical Engineering student is from Nice, France.
Lassalle, a first-year wing, provided speed and demonstrated an innate sense of space creating many scoring opportunities for the team. As a rookie at the university level he showed incredible maturity and patience. Throughout the season, he developed an increased awareness of positioning and his already strong tackling was a major component in Concordia’s defensive structure.
The Montrealer is in his third year of Political Science studies.
