Concordia Stinger kicker Warren Kean took his boots the CIS and QUFL record books last Saturday.
The Dundas, Ont. native kicked nine field goals in a wild game that took six overtime periods to decide. His final kick of the day was a 33-yarder that gave Concordia a 34-31 victory over the visiting Saint Mary's Huskies.
Kean connected on five field goals in regulation time and four in overtime. He also attempted 12 field goals on the day.
Nine field goals in a single game sets a Canadian university football record. The previous record of seven field goals was set by the University of Toronto's Lance Chomyc in 1982.
Kean established four new Quebec conference records, including most field goals and most attempts in a single game. He also becomes the Quebec leader for field goals in a season with 20 and attempts in a season with 32.
A couple of more records could fall this Saturday when the Stingers (6-1) travel to Sherbrooke to play the Vert et Or (2-5) on the last day of the regular season. Jamie Boreham currently holds the CIS record for most field goals in a season with 23. Kean has 20 after seven games. While in Quebec, the most points scored in a career is 259 by Ottawa Gee-Gees' kicker Darren McNeice. Kean currently has 250 career points.
Kean plans to play a fifth year at Concordia, unless an opportunity to play professional football arises.
