Concordia Stingers football dropped a 39-14 decision to the Laval Rouge et Or in the 37th Shrine Bowl on Saturday.
Rookie quarterback Antoine Ouimet provided a spark in the second half, completing 13 of 22 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns. Third-year receiver Oriola Poirier hauled in a 28-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, followed by an 18-yard strike to rookie receiver Ely Rivest.
On defense, linebacker William Castonguay led all players with 8.5 tackles. The Stingers’ pass rush made its mark as well, with Thomas Dussault and Gabriel Tremblay each recording a sack. Dussault also forced and recovered a fumble in a strong individual performance. Poirier was named Stingers Offensive Player of the Game, while Castonguay earned Defensive Player of the Game.
With the loss, Concordia falls to 1-3 on the season and sits in fifth place in the RSEQ standings. The Stingers will look to rebound when they host the Montréal Carabins for Homecoming on September 27 at 1 p.m.
