Stingers clinch playoff spot with thrilling win over McGill

The Concordia Stingers football team capped off their regular season with a statement victory, defeating the McGill Redbirds to clinch third place in the RSEQ standings and secure a spot in the conference semifinals against the Montréal Carabins on Nov. 1 at 12 p.m.

Rookie quarterback Antoine Ouimet delivered a breakout performance in just his second career start. The first-year pivot threw for 225 yards and a touchdown, while adding 95 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground — including the game-sealing score with less than a minute remaining in the fourth quarter. His outstanding effort earned him RSEQ Offensive Player of the Week honours.

Running back Franck Tchembe powered the ground game with 162 yards on 16 carries, while rookie receiver Ely Rivest continued his impressive season, hauling in four receptions for 132 yards and a touchdown.

On defence, Carter Soles made his presence felt from the safety position, recording two sacks to help the Stingers contain McGill’s offence.

With the win, the Stingers head into the playoffs with momentum and confidence as they prepare to take on the Carabins in the RSEQ semifinals.
